Building ESO Strap has given us the chance to explore so many creative outlets. We have always had an interest in digital recording but the world of photography and video was still very foreign. When starting this company we had initially intended to outsource all of our digital media, but due to time constraints during launch we were forced to take these challenges on ourselves.
Looking back we are thankful this happened because it forced us to spend money on our own equipment rather than someone else’s services. However, the pressure was on us to manage everything from concept to creation; and fast! We handled all of the photography, video, digital recording and design work used to represent our brand in-house.
Reflecting on this we realized that it was not only fun, but taking challenges on yourself can sometimes produce an equal or better result than what you may have paid for. Rarely, is someone else to going to spend the extra time to get that perfect angle, melody or concept. Sure, a professional may produce a better overall aesthetic but the art will be portrayed differently. Plus, taking these projects on help you connect with the meaning. For us this was our brand, and ourselves, which in the end was the same thing.
Holly and I are constantly testing this way of thinking. A recent example of this happened a few years ago when we couldn’t find the perfect cabin, in the perfect area. We ended up buying a piece of land and built it ourselves. At the time my carpentry was minimal, but now I can build anything. One year later we had a beautiful cabin that looks down at a river, over to a waterfall, and up to a mountain range at a fraction of the price (see our view in the pic above).
Point being. Always be looking for ways to build out your unwritten memoires. The rewards could be much greater than anything you could have paid for. We live by this philosophy in both life and business.
When have you managed concept to creation?
