Cheap vs. Expensive Gear? When to Spend the Money…?

Spending money on a lifestyle or hobby is an easy purchase because it makes you feel good. However, the amount you spend is up to you, and expensive gear is not necessary at first for two reasons: Cheap gear can get you pretty far You may not know yourself as an artist yet. Musicians go through life cycles when it comes to their art. Any interest typically starts out as a simple goal or desire to emulate something you have always wanted to do or become. For me it was Nirvana in the late 90’s. Being from Seattle, I found their story to be elusive, and the music was dirty, rebellious and iconic. My interest in Nirvana made me want...

In short; he is an incredible artist who continues to surprise us. Primarily because each project he works on is very different than the last. It’s obvious he has true passion and skill for creating music rather than chasing fads. In addition to his music abilities did you know that Jim has and still owns, bars/music venues, restaurants, cafes and non-profits? How about the...

People start bands every day, and the first thought is usually to find members. Two guitarists, a bass player, drummer, vocals, and keys etc… Why all these people? Less really can be more. The less people needed to make a decision the better. I have been in both 4 and 5 piece bands, as well worked with large teams in business. It can be a nightmare… A few years ago my buddy and I started a 3-piece band. Me (guitar & vocals) him drums, and one other friend playing bass. It was simple from a collaborative perspective but lacking in sound. To solve this problem we had to get creative. The solution was integrating 2 Boss RC-2 loop stations. Each one...
