Am I Good Enough to Join a Band?

There are a lot of musicians out there who choose not to join a band as they think they are not good enough… Who cares! Just do it, at the very least you will get WAYYYY better. I am writing this to encourage people who play casually or alone to seek out other musicians to jam with. The fear of not being good enough or simple lack in motivation is no reason to not join bands. Nothing compares to the feeling you get from practicing or performing with other artists. It’s like speaking a language that only musicians understand; and having amazing conversations in that language. It’s awesome!  At one point in life I found myself in this rut. I...

Northwest Spotlight: Witherow

Being from Seattle, we love to feature bands creating unique and inspiring music right here in our own back yard. As most of you know, it is not hard to find amazing talent within our city limits, but often times the outliers are the ones to watch. The Olympic Peninsula band, Witherow, has been catching the attention of much more than just music lovers here in Seattle. Formed by musicians/sweethearts Abby Mae Latson and Dillan Witherow, this group is certainly onto something different. Beyond their dynamic vocal ranges, you will find they have a unique way of dovetailing traditional folk rock with modern and sometimes ominous guitar undertones. Their songs have a timeless aesthetic that give any listener just enough...

Studio Quality Sound for All

The process of recording music is now easier than ever.  Programs as simple as GarageBand, or as complex as Pro Tools, offer us the ability to capture studio quality sound from any room in the house.  It is incredible. We should wake up each day with a huge smile on our face for these blessings. A recent example of just how far we have come is when we recorded the music for one of our ESO Strap videos in just a few hours. It was as simple as this: overlayed 2 rythm guitars, 3 lead guitars, voice over, bass and a drum track in under 3 hours… Again, this is incredible. However, in high school I remember having to hook up one VHS camcorder,...

It went Bo Jackson then Deion Sanders NOW Trouble Andrew

We are use to seeing athletes, musicians, artists and entrepreneurs do one thing at a high level. However, once in a while you get to witness someone do few things at the highest level. For Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders this was football and baseball, but for Trouble Andrew this is snowboarding and music. Trevor Andrew AKA Trouble Andrew was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and made his name as a pro snowboarder at a very young age. He then spent the majority of his later life traveling to far away places and participating in both the 2000 XGames and two winter Olympics. In short, he is a legend in the world of pro snowboarding. In 2004 Trevor suffered...

5 Pedals Every Guitarist Should Own

I spent years in search of the perfect pedal board, and for the moment I may have found it. These 5 effect pedals enable even a rookie the ability to create anything from a dirty grunge to a beautiful shoe gaze. The Big Muff by Electro-Harmonix. This pedal provides in its most basic term “fuzz.” Distortion is not fuzz. This is an absolute essential for any guitarist. It rounds out your board, and can act as either a frontrunner or back up effect. If you want to elongate your riff or create elusive feedback this is your new best friend. They are extremely affordable and I recommend the “little big muff” as it gives you the same big sound...
